Norwegian Cruise Line’s Cruise Terminal B at PortMiami, built through a joint venture (JV) between NV2A and 澳门足彩app, has been named the national winner of ENR’s 2021 Best of the Best Projects in the Airport/Transit category, the media company has announced.
The honor marks the first national project award 澳门足彩app has received from Engineering News-Record, widely considered the top publication for the architecture, engineering and construction industry.
“This was an outstanding collaborative effort of the NV2A-澳门足彩app Joint Venture,” said Peter Kinsley, President of 澳门足彩app’s Infrastructure & Transportation Group. “We have to salute the extraordinary effort and results of the project team. To have built such a beautiful project, which will serve the Norwegian Cruise Line and be a jewel at PortMiami for decades, is truly an honor.”
A nautilus-inspired landmark, NCL Cruise Terminal B unites function and form in vibrant Miami, Florida. The $232 million, 546,757-square-foot project includes a new terminal building with all back-of-house operations for security, baggage handling and screening, and ground transportation areas for buses, rideshare and personal vehicles. The project also boasts a multi-purpose provisioning building for supporting ship operations, waste disposal and general provisioning. This building houses the main MEP systems, such as main switchgear, emergency generator, HVAC chiller systems and communications backbone. An 809-space precast parking structure is also included.
The ENR national award is the culmination of a nearly year-long effort by roughly 100 members of the construction industry chosen by ENR editors to judge the various stages of the contest. The 20 winners were selected from more than 800 submissions across the respective categories and represent the pinnacle of design and construction achievement from across the U.S. among projects completed between May 2020 and May 2021.
The competition began in March 2021 with a call for entries to the construction industry to submit their best work to the regional Best Projects competitions. Editors in each of ENR’s 10 regions empaneled judges to select regional winners in 20 categories.
Regional category winners moved on to the national competition, and a new group of 15 judges from across the country and from all walks of the industry selected the best from the best in terms of teamwork, safety, overcoming challenges, innovation and quality.
“At a time when the country is making a historic investment in infrastructure, airports and cruise terminal owners are investing heavily to modernize and radically improve as the passenger experience, it is special to be recognized for building such a beautiful facility, Kinsley said. “PortMiami is the largest cruise location in the world, and to have been able to build the best facility at the best location is very exciting.”
